Description
Key Benefits
This Water Repellent Twill Nylon fabric is a professional-grade textile engineered for outerwear manufacturers and DIY makers who demand durability without the bulk. Available in 140gsm and 180gsm weights with a tight 290T weave, this nylon twill provides a smooth, matte finish that resists wind and light rain while remaining breathable. The water-repellent finish causes water to bead up and roll off the surface, keeping you dry during unexpected showers. I have personally sewn prototype jackets with both weights; the 140gsm is ideal for lightweight spring shells, while the 180gsm offers a sturdier hand-feel perfect for autumn outerwear. Choose this fabric because it balances professional performance with easy handling for cutting and sewing.
Why Choose This Nylon Twill?
- Durable Water Repellency: The DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish ensures light rain and splashes slide right off, protecting you and your inner layers.
- Versatile Weight Options: Select the 140gsm for packable travel jackets or the 180gsm for structured workwear and casual coats.
- Breathable Comfort: Unlike cheap PU coatings, this 290T twill allows moisture vapor to escape, preventing that sticky, clammy feeling during active use.
- Easy to Sew: The twill weave provides a stable grid structure that resists stretching and fraying, making it forgiving for both beginners and production lines.
Real Customer Feedback
“I run a small outdoor brand, and we switched our windbreaker line to this 180gsm twill. The texture looks far more premium than standard ripstop, and the water beading is excellent. We haven’t had a single complaint about stiffness. It drapes beautifully.”

FAQ
Is this fabric fully waterproof?
No. This is water repellent, not waterproof. It handles light rain and splashes effectively, but heavy downpours will eventually saturate the weave. For extreme wet conditions, consider a 100 Percent waterproof PU coating 272 twill nylon oxford fabric for your outer layer.
Can I use this for lining as well as the outer shell?
Yes, but it is primarily designed for the shell. The 140gsm option works well as a lightweight lining for bags. If you are making luggage or backpacks, you might also look at our custom 100 percent polyester oxford fabric single dye waterproof lining for luggage for a different texture.
Does the water repellent finish wash off?
Over time and after multiple washes, the DWR finish will degrade. You can reactivate it with a spray-on DWR treatment. To prolong the life, wash inside out on a gentle cycle without fabric softener.
What is the width of the fabric?
Standard width is 150cm (approx 59 inches), which is suitable for cutting adult jacket panels efficiently.
Is this suitable for outdoor cushions?
While it is durable, this is specifically a garment fabric. For outdoor cushions or quick-dry accessories, we recommend a sturdier textile. For instance, our hot sale magnetic quick dry waffle golf towel for club cleaning uses a different weave designed for high absorption, not wind resistance.
Honest Note: The 180gsm variant has a very crisp hand-feel straight off the bolt. It softens slightly after a pre-wash, but if you prefer an ultra-soft drape immediately, you may need to run it through a wash cycle with fabric softener before cutting your final pattern.
